Born Hwang Chansung (Korean: 황찬성), known more popularly known as Chansung (Korean: 찬성, Japanese: チャンソン), is a South Korean singer, songwriter, rapper and actor. He is the lead rapper, vocalist, and youngest member of the South Korean male group 2PM.
Early Life
Chansung was born and raised in Seoul, South Korea.
He attended Korean Art High School, graduating around the time of his debut with 2PM.
Career
Pre-debut
2PM
After participating in Mnet's idol training program Hot Blood Men, he was chosen to debut under 2PM. The group 2PM officially debuted on September 4, 2008, with the mini album Hottest Time of the Day.

Business ventures
On June 1, 2012, JYP Entertainment announced through their official Twitter that Chansung will be opening a fitness center with his weight trainer, Hwang Mo. The fitness center is located in Nonhyun-dong, Seoul.
Film, television and web series
He played roles in MBC's 2006 comedy "Unstoppable High Kick" and in KBS2's 2008 drama "Jungle Fish" before participating in Mnet's idol training program Hot Blood Men.
In 2011, Chansung made a cameo appearance in Dream High as Ohsun's imaginary boy, before making his official return to acting with the role of Jack in the Japanese drama Kaitō Royale.
In 2013, he had a supporting role in a spy romantic comedy series, 7th Grade Civil Servant as Gong Do-ha and the role of a newbie ganster Hyeong-ju in the drama special Your Noir.
In 2015, he made a cameo appearance in his labelmates GOT7's web drama Dream Knight.
In 2016, he was cast as Nam Bonggi in My Horrible Boss as Nam Bong-gi and made another cameo appearance in the SBS drama Dr. Romantic.
In 2017, he made a cameo appearance in SBS drama Suspicious Partner as as Eun Bong Hee’s (Nam Ji Hyun) ex-boyfriend. He also appeared in KBS2’s drama Queen for Seven Days as Seo No, the bodyguard and friend of Lee Yeok (Yeon Woo Jin). The same year marked his official debut as a stage actor for the play My Love, My Bride and musical Altar Boyz in Japan, where he played the role of the band’s leader Matthew in the latter work.
In 2018, he was cast in the tvN Drama What's Wrong with Secretary Kim and he was given the Hallyu Star Award and Male Excellence Award at the 11th Korea Drama Awards. He then starred in promotional web series produced for Lotte Duty Free Shop, Secret Queen Makers.
In 2018, he made a cameo appearance in romantic comedy drama Touch Your Heart, playing the role of a delivery man who catches the eye of timid lawyer Dan Moon Hee (Park Kyung Hye). He also participated in the musical Smoke.
In 2020, he was cast in the Netflix series My Holo Love, as the son of the rival company's CEO.

Personal life
His family consists of his mother, father, and older brother.
Chansung owns a cat named Jeonggam (Korean: 정감, meaning "affectionate"), who was featured in a mini-series called “Real Jeonggam” (a spin-off of Real 2PM) and was voiced by 2AM’s Jinwoon. His cat and Junho’s cat Ggomaengi are siblings, Chansung being the one who gave the latter cat to Junho.
He enrolled in Howon University.
Military enlistment
He enlisted in the Korean army for his mandatory military service on June 11, 2019. After completing his training, he was selected as an assistant at the new recruit bootcamp for the military 5th division in Yongsan.
He was discharged on January 5, 2021.
Trivia
- The name Chansung written in Chinese characters means “to shine while achieving success”, but in Korean, it can also mean “agreement”. He uses it as a pun and notes that his name is always called on television during the election season. His username on Twitter is even “2pmagreement911”.
- His nicknames are Channana (Chansung + banana; also the name of his ZooPM character), Old Maknae (due to looking older than he actually is), and Italian Maknae (due to his European-like appearance), General Hwang, Hwang Zeus (both due to his large build), Songga-yah (from the last syllable of his name; a nickname from Jun. K).
- He is also a part of Dirty Eyed Girls, a group composed of Oneday members, as "Chansung Bandae" (literally meaning "agree reject").
- He speaks fluent Korean, basic Japanese, basic English.
- He is a trained martial artist, having achieved high levels in kendo (which he demonstrated during Superstar Survival) and a fourth degree black belt in Taekwondo. His skills in kendo have allowed him to participate in a performance alongside his teacher.
- His hobbies are listening to music, gaming, and working out.
- His designated color in 2PM promotions are black and purple.
- During his pre-debut days, he admits to being tone-deaf.
- Despite being the youngest member of 2PM, he is also the second-tallest, only 1cm shorter than Taecyeon.
- During the time 2PM was the brand ambassador for Cass, he and Junho were left out of the promotions because they were still underage.
- After all the members moved out of the dormitory, Chansung bought their old sofa and brought it into his own apartment.
- He appeared in a Chinese remake of the variety show We Got Married, where he was paired with Chinese actress Liu Yan.
